if my journey into booktube is teaching me anything it’s that much in the way that the mass-produce commercial object of the book is often fetishized as having innate cultural and intellectual value by virtue of Being A Book, many “bookish content creators” seem to fancy themselves as having something innately intelligent and interesting to say solely because they are Talking About Books
One thing the Visa/Mastercard censorship stuff reminds me of is the Comics Code/Hays Code - oligopolies taking it upon themselves to regulate speech because anyone who wants to make/sell stuff at scale has no choice but to do business with them, under pressure from outside moralist activists, partly to head off the possibility of government regulation, partly to avoid bad publicity, perhaps partly out of sympathy with the activists among the relevant elements of the bureaucracy.
And none of these people are willing to do more than record it on their cell phones. It’s your duty to unarrest someone if you see them getting arrested. Be fucking brave, please.
